Just Making the Rounds

I have been climing up and down the family tree again like a little genealogy marmoset and I found a couple of interesting relations. For instance, my grandmother's cousin, Martha Fagg (we are concerned about the pronuciation of her surname and hope it rhymes with bog and not brag), married Ulysses S Grant. No kidding. He was born in 1912 in Utah, and when his father Franklin Grant got up to name and bless him in sacrament meeting he was overcome by a sudden wave of patriotism and had a Mahonri Moriancumer Moment. Here's the two Ulysses S Grants together. They even look similar.

I also found that another of my grandmother's cousins, Cenella Fagg, is the mother of the LDS artist Al Rounds. This is him and one of his paintings.









Our stake clerk is named Micheal Rounds, and since today was ward conference, he was there at sacrament meeting sitting on the back row. I asked if he was related to Al Rounds. Lo and behold, he is a second cousin once removed to Al Rounds. So, Mike and I are not related, but we are both second cousins once removed to the same guy. How special is that?

Caitlin's Personal Progress project is finally done!

After ten long hours at the computer, I have finished my Divine Nature personal progress project. The project I decided to do was a slideshow of the Davenport cousins that would help bring our families together even though we may live several hundred miles away. Since we all need to see it for my plan to unify the family to work, I've posted it here as well as on my Picasa site, so that you can view it whichever way you please. I hope you enjoy it and learn something new about the Davenport cousins that you may not have known before.

787 Achieves Power-On Milestone

Exciting News!

Power-On has been achieved for the 787. This means that all the electrical systems on-board have been checked out as having been installed correctly and that they function properly as expected. Boeing has a cool website that explains more of the details if you are interested. We finally met a program-level milestone per our stated schedule and now I hope it's all "downhill" towards a first flight later this year in Oct/Nov.

Jacob and Preston Play with Professionals

Jacob and Preston had the opportunity to go on the pitch prior to a Seattle Sounders preseason match. The Sounders players encouraged our young stars. One of the Sounders remembered Jacob from soccer camp last year and another said "Awesome, dude" to Preston after he did a rollover. We sat next to our friends and it was fun to see the Sounders play so close to home.

Family History, I am doing it.

I have been goofing around climbing up and down the family tree.


I found that all of the death certificates for Utah for the years 1905-1955 are available on line so I downloaded about 150 of those for people on both the Davenport and the Lawrence sides of our family. Above is the death certificate for Edward and Clarissa Davenport's Daughter, Agnes Eudora.

I found that our local library subscribes to an online obituary service so I was able to download about 50 obituaries for both Davenport and Lawrence relatives. I designed the above obituary card so I could save each obituary as a jpeg for our pix pedigree.

I also found that Dorothy Hall's book "Davenport Ancestry in America...Descendants of Edward Wilcox Davenport" is available online at our local library, so I've been able to get a bunch of inforamtion from that. I can even save the pages to my hard drive.

All very, very exciting to me. Probably really boring to everyone else.

Watching General Conference

We get BYU TV so we can watch conference at home.

Here are some pictures of us watching conference, including the required conssessions (popcorn).
Joseph said his favorite part was President Monson wiggling his ears in the Priesthood session.

Caitlin and Jacob's favorite part was the note Sister Monson wrote that said, "Don't let Dad touch the microwave."

Preston liked that the note said, "Don't let Dad touch the dryer."

My favorite part was that my arms felt well enough to do a little crochet.
Roger said his favorite part was getting to know President Monson as the prophet.

Preston is the General Conference Superhero.

Super Nun

I talked Caitlin into putting back on her super hero costume that she wore to school on Thursday for "Super-Hero Day." She said she was Bizzaro, but the kids at school thought she was super-nun. One guy even said he was converted by her superpowers. Way to do missionary work Caitlin! But next time, try to get them to convert to mormonism.

We think Caitlin's belt has special powers to help you live church standards. We sang, "The golden belt lay hidden, Deep in Caitlin's room, Until one day she found it, And wore it to her school."

Trapazoid World

This is a picture of a girl in a very strange 2-D world. sometimes I wish I could live in this world but I'd probably go blind because of all the colors. I know we said on the title that we would tell you what his name is. His name is "Kungfu Master." He has a beltloop that's named "Best Kungfu Master" in his own scouts that he put on his belt that is hidden. He will come and do some Karate moves.

Preston does a "side-looser"

Me and my family Jacob, Dad and Mom go to Jacob's pinewood derby. Jacob and Dad made a pinewood derby car. That day, me and Jacob went to our friends house and haved a play date, and we had for dinner, pizza, at our friend's house. And Dad picked us up.

How we feel about our smelly church

When we got to church this morning, it smelled bad, so the bishop got up and said, "We're going to have to evacuate the building." So we all left.

They thought it might be a problem with the furnace, or an electrical problem, but the fumes were pretty strong. My eyes were watering by the time we left the building.

Snow!

Here in Washington we always get really excited about snow. Snow this close to April is just unheard of! Too bad it didn't stick to the roads or we might have been able to miss school tomorrow.
